Rules Poker - Poker Game |
For this final segment, the deputy would like to clarify a few poker rules. Poker has many variants, but today we will focus on Texas Hold'em poker.
The poker game usually begins with two players “posting the blinds” (putting down money), so that the players have something to play for.
Texas Hold'em poker is played with a 52-card deck. Each player is dealt two face down cards (“hole” cards). This is immediately followed by a round of betting. This round is known as the pre-flop. The amount that is bet depends on the game that is being played. As in most poker games, players may check, raise or fold by the poker rules.
After the betting round ends, the dealer “burns” or discards the top card to prevent cheating. The next round is the flop. It involves the dealer flipping three cards face up onto the table. These are community cards that all players can use to complete a hand. |

There is another round of betting at this stage. After that is done, the dealer “burns” another card and flips one more onto the table. This is known as the “turn” card. It can be used to form a hand.
The rest of the game continues in a similar fashion. Another card is flipped, and there is a final round of betting. When this is done, the players begin to reveal their hands. This process, the “showdown”, ends when the player with the highest valued hand wins. |
